Hungary, Hungary Hippo

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

I'll be honest the hippo part has nothing to do with this city but it's always fun to use the name of a country for a cute title. Hungary was a country I wasn't expecting to enjoy but ended up loving it! I can't quite compare the streets to anywhere else I've been (maybe close to Barcelona, Spain) but Hungary has a feel of elegance and charm that I can't put my finger on so it's better to describe some of the awesome activities I engaged in here. Drinks at the (Members only content location) bar in Budapest where among my top favorite moments as well as the dive club we went to directly after. The dive club didn't make my top list but did get honorable mention; (Members only content location). The top bath house that any Hungary visitor must visit is Gellert and it was a beautiful building and decent experience but it didn't blow me away. For the younger generation, depending on what day you go and the crowd that is there but when we went it was a lot of older, wealthier visitors which can be fine but not if there is a certain vibe you are trying to feel. 2 of my top favorite moments however lie in a Hookah bar and in an ancient catacomb like maze at the top of the hill. (Members only content location) hookah bar was every bit as weird, quirky and cool as it presents itself and anytime I feel like I'm walking into an acid trip while being completely sober I know it's going to be an interesting time (also happened at the Club in Croatia which did make the top of list). It feels like this hookah spot was found in a back alley but let me tell you it was super fun and the hookah was super delicious. Last exploration was some Dracula catacomb museum at the top of the hill after we visited some of the famous monuments of Budapest. I'll be honest, we randomly decided to take this spooky tour so unless you're into the supernatural, feel free to skip this experience, I won't be offended.

General Consensus: If you are in a neighboring country (we were in Vienna prior to this visit) I would recommend Hungary. Actually I would go a bit further and say if you decided to make this a one stop shop trip in Europe it is also worth it. This country has plenty to keep every age range entertained and I enjoyed my visit more than I expected.
