Let the (Scotland) SkyFall

Updated: Jan 21, 2023

London and Singapore are officially my favorite places in the world with Italy coming in at #3. I have a nervous tick now about accomplishing certain travel milestones in my head and for this particular journey that meant visiting every country in the UK. It was brought to my attention I still have 1 more to go but at least I can cross off the 3 main ones: London/Ireland/Scotland. Full transparency my ACTUAL reason for wanting to visit Scotland was because of my favorite James Bond movie with the same title as this blog: Skyfall.....but like many things in Hollywood, it doesn't actually exist. I wanted to visit James dirt road childhood mansion and was willing to do whatever it took to accomplish that but in digging deep it was a set created in England and back lot placed via CGI in Scotland. This means you can visit the road but the actual house is not located on this road...total BS. However in viewing photos and videos of Scotland this wasn't a total disappointment just another sad notch under the travel belt. Scotland is typically cloudy and rainy which is actually my favorite kind of weather but ironically enough it was sunny and beautiful when I was there. Old Town is 100% where I should have stayed and if you decide to take the journey here it is where you should plop yourself as well but I still loved the bed and breakfast feel of (Members Only Content). I have a fascination with old European buildings and Scotland did not disappoint when it came to that! The people were so kind, the scenery was lovely, food was good (nothing to crazy to rant about...pretty typical) however the pound will always be the scariest conversion rate, probably worse than the Euro. Edinburgh Castle was lovely however not the best one I've been to in the world (Romania so far has been the best in the world to me) it was fairly quick and you could only go to certain parts. Walking down the cobblestone streets was extremely peaceful and visually pleasant but the (Members Only Content) Ghost Tour was a little more my speed. There are a few different ones so find one that appeals to you...it was informative for Edinburgh history and entertaining but I must say America/Poland takes the cake for actual haunted locations.

General Consensus: If you are a writer, blogger, photographer or handle any kinds of artsy crafts Edinburgh Scotland will do wonders for your mental health and getting yourself creatively centered again. If you are a lover of old European buildings and a fan of wanting to spot the Loch Ness monster Scotland is your place (there are also gorgeous cliffs and places I didn't visit in Scotland but I'm sure these are similar to other places with those sights). This however is not where any regular vacationer should find themselves and if one place takes precedence over here....London has it all.
