Let's talk about bucket-list life goals for this one! I am still on a mission to visit as many of the Wonders of the world as possible, so I called up a friend to accomplish this one! My wonderful friend Sarah gets credit for about 98% of this trip so I will tell my story based on the places she arranged for us and our experiences. Peru was fabulous and I remember driving up the mountain to head to the hotel she picked for us (Members only content location) and seeing one of the coolest and prettiest beach dinner/lunch places lit up like Christmas. We stayed in downtown Lima because the first thing we wanted to do was ride some sand buggies (one of my favorite desert activities) which was a nice little 10 hour drive (5 there and 5 back....and it certainly was not nice when you get easily car sick but we were able to get a private driver so that made it 90x better). When we arrived at Huacachina it was like a slice of visual heaven...the sunset was gorgeous, the people were lively and ready for adventure and Sarah totally kicked my ass in walking up the Sand Dunes to get to our buggie. That ride was awesome, we got to drive around the desert (with a tour guide) and he let us take photos and surf down the sand hill (a tom-boy dream come true). After getting back to our hotel, before we made our way to the small town of Cusco, we had lunch at the place I spotted (Members only content location) ...one of the only things I may get credit for on this trip lol). We flew from Lima to Cusco pretty easily thanks to me and Sarah's great navigation skills lol and man was this town rich in beauty and scenery. We shopped at the local market and picked up some little souvenir items and had lunch on the top of a nice little hill with a gorgeous view (I had Alpaca... don't ask me why but I did and it was just as awful as it sounds but I've eaten crocodile before so why not?). Again, Sarah found an awesome hotel that gave me all the Game of Thrones vibes and a bed big enough for 9 people! We took the most gorgeous (yet expensive) train to and from Machu Picchu that was worth every dollar... going we took the mid-tier level train that has panoramic views of the mountains and makes you fend for yourself for food lol but this was due to Covid measures. However coming home we took the fancy train as me and Sarah put it (runs about $500+ for a ticket) and again..worth every dollar (delicious meals, full bar, entertainment and great new people/friends to meet).
General Consensus: Peru is a MAJOR YES!!! From the experiences, to the company, to the scenery I adored everything about this place and next years mission is to continue exploring South America as I have already taken over Europe way to many times and Italy/London is probably sick of me by now lol. The food did not blow me away...pretty average but La Rosa Nautica in Lima was a must visit!
