Awful movie (the hills have eyes) but thank God have no relation to this incredible Italian vista. My few hours in Tuscany was one of enchantment and also something straight out of a horror movie. Imagine driving up a beautiful mountain for a wine tasting and dinner that once upon a time only a Hollywood socialite could dream of, to find that you're running a bit low on gas. Your tiny car makes it up the mountain (where you didn't see many gas stations) but who cares because from the top of (Members only content location) all the cares and worry in the world evaporate. This Vineyard not only has some of the most delicious combos of wine, honey and cheese but some of the most incredible views in the world. You finish your tasting, head to a fantastic dinner, take a tour of some of the most incredible (and most expensive) villas in the world and get a tad bit tipsy. You look out over the hills and landscape of Tuscany but as night falls it's time to head back to your hotel in Rome 3 hours away. The least tipsy of the two of you starts up the car (mind you, there were warnings of animals you've never even heard of to avoid hitting on your way down) to notice it's time to get that gas. Clueless Americans on how to get gas in another country and another language, you fill up your tank with diesel gas....you know the tank that takes regular? You sober up real quick and realize your mistake and just don't turn the car on because of the shit show that would follow. As you wait for the rental companies tow truck to come, bugs swarm the car in the pitch black mountains. After a good hour and 2 phones on nearly no battery, you are taken to a little Inn for the night to HOPEFULLY catch a train the next day to head back to Rome. Even in this terrifying diversion in the middle of the night, the hotel was quaint and beautiful (photo below) and you begin to see that this awful lack of judgement aside, being stranded in a Tuscany Inn on a calm clear night is one of the most happiest accidents two girls could ever pray for.
General Consensus: My 24hrs in Tuscany, no matter how hard fate tried to make it awful, were incredible. In any other scenario I would have complained and been in utter hell if I were stranded 3 hours from my hotel with a constantly delayed train system and no clue how much this would cost me to fix. My friend and I only survived because in this exact situation, there is no place better on earth to get stranded then the mountains of wine country Italy. I highly recommend visiting or getting lost here.
